Will we have to welcome future Social Justice superiors? It’s hard to say right now, but what we can do is take a glimpse of what that someday reality might look like. Just a few weeks ago we had holiday gifts for all our woke friends. Let’s keep helping them imagine the world of Critical Theories dreams.
Take kids for example. It’s hard to think there won’t still be at least one or two kids even if that’s frowned upon. You just can’t avoid every oops, especially with so many more women everywhere now! But how do you bring kids up right in this brave new world? Why with games like the Right Side of History Hopscotch!

How do you play?

Instructions for "Right Side of History Hopscotch"
Objective: Jump through the hopscotch squares, making choices that keep you on the “right side of history.” But beware! Some squares have hidden extensions of white-bodied supremacy, and not all paths are as virtuous as they seem.
How to Play:
Set up your hopscotch grid on the ground, labeling each square with some of the following phrases: Privilege Check, Patriarchy, Eugenics, Skokie, Eurocentrism, October 7th, Spectrum of Violence, Microaggressions, Implicit Bias, Advocacy, Racial Justice, Agency, Virtue Signal, Cultural Appropriation, Broken Windows Policing, Puberty Blockers, Transactivist and a Call out Square. Mix and match, for a different game every time!
Grab a colonist: Each player gets a colonist token to toss (e.g., a traditional finger bone, a bottle of SSRIs, or Adderall).
Toss your colonist: Stand behind the starting line and toss your colonist onto the first square.
Jump through the colonial industrial complex grid: Don’t touch the ‘colonized’ square where your token landed, hop, tap, crawl, hobble, or roll through the rest. Stick to one foot for single squares and two feet for double squares. Prosthetics, wheels, crutches, hands, and knees are great too!
Single squares: You must decide if the buzzword on the square represents an unchallenged truth or an extension of white-bodied supremacy trap. If it’s a trap, you have to seek anti-oppression counseling and lose a turn.
Double squares: Jump, tap, crawl, hobble, or roll with both feet, prosthetics, wheels, crutches, hands, and knees, but only one square is "safe." Choose wisely or pay reparations.
Pick up your colonist: When you reach the end of the grid, turn and hop, tap, crawl, hobble, or roll back. Don’t forget to pick up your colonist on the way without losing balance.
Claim your virtue points: Successfully hopping, tapping, crawling, hobbling, or rolling through earns you points. The more complex the buzzword, the higher the stakes. Be prepared to defend the root causes of internalized white supremacy if challenged by another player!
Next round: The next player repeats the process, tossing their colonist onto the next square.
Special Rules:
"Virtue Signal" Square: If your colonist lands here, you must pause, strike a grand pose, and make an impassioned speech on excavating ancestral trauma and imperialism across the globe. The best performance as judged by fellow players earns bonus points, plus you get a free pass to step outside the lines!
"Privilege Check" Square: If you land here, you must discern the intersectionality of a young black feminist criminologist in a diabetic coma and a poor old black transwoman recovering from feminization surgery who identifies as non-binary right now. Fail this challenge, and you lose two turns, are labeled a white supremacist, canceled, and shunned by all of your friends forever.
"Call-Out" Square: When another player lands here, they have the opportunity to "call out" someone to explain the matrix of oppression. If the player can convincingly recognize and explain all different social classifications, ie. race, class, gender, age, sexual orientation, etc, and how they are interconnected, they receive more points. And the player who called the challenge must skip their next turn and apologize for the impact of their colonial violence. If they can not, they are labeled as violent for internalized racial superiority, gatekeeping, gaslighting, colorism, ableism, fatphobia and must leave the playground for settler colonialism reeducation immediately.
Winning: The first player to hop, tap, crawl, hobble, or roll through all the squares while staying on the “right side of history” wins! But remember, it's not just about speed—it's about making the "right" choices.

Housekeeping
Last Thursday my daughter was taking Poppet and my neighbor’s dog out for a walk, as usual. When they were almost home, they were attacked by a pitbull that was running loose. Were it not for another neighbor who thought quickly and grabbed a large branch to beat the pitbull I think our little dogs would have been killed, and I don’t even like to think what would have happened to my daughter. As it was both dogs were badly injured and needed surgery.
So I’ve been pulling double duty, writing and managing the fallout from the attack. Needless to say, the writing has been getting short shrift. Forgive me if I miss a deadline or a grammar error or two. Poppet has another week before stitches come out if all goes well, and I have seen to it that the pitbull was picked up by animal control. I found out it already had at least one prior attack under its belt. I’m sad and angry that this whole thing could have been prevented, while also trying to struggle through to forgiveness.
I can say that accountability will make forgiveness, or as close as I can get, easier, and I’m working on that too. Poppet has been quite sad that she’s not currently allowed on her daily walks. I am incredibly grateful to my neighbor for saving my dog and my daughter.

Diogenes in Exile began after I returned to grad school to pursue a Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s degree at the University of Tennessee. What I encountered, however, was a program deeply entrenched in Critical Theories ideology. During my time there, I experienced significant resistance, particularly for my Buddhist practice, which was labeled as invalidating to other identities. After careful reflection, I chose to leave the program, believing the curriculum being taught would ultimately harm clients and lead to unethical practices in the field.
Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to investigating, writing, and speaking out about the troubling direction of psychology, higher education, and other institutions that seem to have lost their way. When I’m not working on these issues, you’ll find me in the garden, creating art, walking my dog, or guiding my kids toward adulthood.
